Summary

Every human has a spiritual heart. And each of our hearts has been spiritually broken. So, how do we identify sources of spiritual brokenness, define paths for change, and move toward renewal and restoration of our spiritual hearts and the hearts of others? We need a model to help us think critically and communicate clearly.

Every vocation—healthcare, accounting, law, information systems, military, business, farming, you name it—has a shared set of vocabulary and concepts. Yet, one vocation is missing: the vocation of being human. In his work A Model for Evaluating Our Spiritual Heart, Steven Ellis offers a framework of clearly defined terminology that comes together in a guide for navigating issues of the spiritual heart—the vocation of being human.

All humans have the same basic needs and desires. And we develop beliefs and values about how to meet these needs and desires. Such beliefs inform our expectations, emotions, and behaviors and understanding how they do so is essential to help us determine the root causes of unhealthy relationships. Drawing from a biblical and theological framework, Ellis equips readers to think critically and communicate clearly for the benefit of themselves and others in the vocation of being the humans God created us to be.
